At the moment of opening IIEM the first subdivision was the 1st Practical inoculation department - the Petersburg Pasteur station founded by prince A.P.Oldenburgsky in 1886. Since then several clinics worked in IEM, but starting from 1991 a new IEM clinic for 120 beds was organized, which occupies a fresh-restored building on Maly prospect now.

The specialists of the clinic have managed to save the accumulated potential under conditions of structural reorganization of economics and health service. The patients are given permanent attention and care of the personnel. The workers of the Clinic are unique specialists who successfully combine their medical and serious scientific work.

Nowadays the Clinic works within the limits of the leading scientific schools of IEM:

• treatment of diseases of the central nervous system (supervised by the Pavlov department of physiology)

• treatment of diseases of cardiovascular system associated with the impaired lipid metabolism (supervised by the department of biochemistry)

For the recent years the Clinic was supplied with the up-to-date diagnostic equipment of intensive therapy and a unit of transfusion therapy was opened where hemofiltration can be performed and emergency care can be rendered to patients with acute renal failure, edema syndrome, severe intoxication of different etiology. High class equipment allows performing immunosorption  which is indispensable for correction of lipid metabolism in patients with severe forms of atherosclerosis.

The Clinic possesses a department of physiotherapy which can fulfill all necessary procedures (Hydrotherapy, fangotherapy, massage etc.) for rehabilitation and recovery in complex cases of multiple sclerosis, disturbed locomotor system after traumas and vascular diseases of the brain, degenerative-dystrophic alterations of the spine.

The Clinic has an up-to-date diagnostic laboratory which completely satisfies all requirements of the medical and diagnostic processes, the investigation on cholesterol metabolism at atherosclerosis being unique.

Perspective for the development of medical service is restorative medicine, rehabilitation after neurosurgical operations and traumas of the brain, after operations on the head and neck arteries, and on coronary arteries. The development of the IEM scientists in the field of using "cellular therapy" (stem cells) may initiate a new trend in treatment of severely damaged nervous and cardiovascular system.

The Clinic's collective make the conditions for the patients notable for maximally benevolent attitude, attention and aimed at getting positive results of treatment.
