REGIONAL ISPNE CONGRESS 
HELD IN ST-PETERSBURG, RUSSIA

The Regional Congress of the International Society of Psychoneuroendocrinology took place in St. Petersburg (Russia), 2-5 June 2001.
It was the first time that a Regional Congress of ISPNE had been held in Russia. 

The scientific programme focused on studies in experimental and clinical neuroendocrinology, endocrinological psychology and psychiatry, neuro- and psychopharmacology and consisted of 9 plenary lectures, 7 symposia, 1 satellite symposium, 2 poster sessions. The lecturers were Uriel Halbriech (USA), President of ISPNE), Nikolay Sapronov (Russia, Chair of the Local Organizing Committee), Dirk Hellhammer (Germany, President-Elect of ISPNE), Edith Holsboer-Trachsler (Switzerland), Michail Coculescu (Romania), Oakley Ray (USA), Filippo Drago (Italy) and Manfred Ackenheil (Germany).

 Through the invited lectures, symposia, free communications and poster sessions the Congress was able to promote contact and exchange of knowledge between basic scientists and clinicians (practitioners) interested in psychopathology in the endocrinological status of patients, mechanisms of interactions between neural and hormonal systems, and new approaches of pharmacological applications, as well as related subjects. There was also a special INTAS session and poster awards for young scientists. 

The Congress was supported by IBRO and INTAS.
