One of the priority tasks is the search for new remedies for treatment of cardiovascular, gastro-duodenal and other visceral systems disturbances of neurogenic origin. These remedies are : antihipoxic drugs, cardio-, hepato-, and cerebroprotectors, nootrops. The task of the lab is pharmacological evaluation of a new synthesized substances: investigation of their specific activity, drug toxicity and safety, design for a technological process for medicinal form production and preparation of standard-technical documentation.
The introduction of molecular-biological approaches to pharmacology has led to the key components of the system of gene regulation being considered as perspective pharmacological targets. The devices of the Department in this field are associated with studying proteinkinase 2, the key enzyme of nuclear receptors of hormones and growth factors. CK2 transmits the external signal into the nucleus and controls expression of the hormone-depending genes. So far more than 300 protein-targets of CK2 including the components of the transcription complex (RNA-polymerases, DNA-topoisomerases), signal molecules (catalytic subunit of proteinkinase A, calmodulin, p53, GAP-43), transcription factors (JUN, FOS, MUC), most of which are involved in control of gene expression at the level of the chromatin structure.
